 home » support our work "Make a Difference—Fund for Felines" The Collier Community Cat Coalition Inc., a non-profit organization, is launching a campaign to raise funds to have the stray and abandoned cats in Collier County spayed and neutered. Economic conditions have contributed to people "dumping" their cats. Often they are left in empty houses or tossed out on some lonely road to fend for themselves. Many have been in a home and now have to try to survive against the elements, predators and the realization that their owner just doesn't want them anymore. And if they become pregnant, their world is really upside down. They must find shelter, somewhere safe to have their kittens. Odds are always against them and the tiny kittens are in constant danger. Quite often, the Coalition receives calls and emails from concerned people who are feeding one or more of these cats. They can provide food and shelter but cannot afford to have the cats spayed and neutered. Of course, that is crucial in keeping the over population of the cats from increasing. The gestation period for a female is only 63 days, so a female could easily have 3 litters per year. And an unneutered male can father untold numbers of litters in a year. The answer is simple: Trap the cats, take them to a Veterinarian and have them spayed or neutered, vaccinated for rabies, treated for worms, ear mites and fleas and then return them to their caretakers.
